Masdar, an Abu Dhabi fund that invests in cleantech, has acquired a substantial shareholding in Finnish wind power company WinWinD Ltd. WinWinD designs, develops and manufactures technologically advanced 1- and 3-megawatt wind turbines. The company has its head office in Helsinki, and other offices in Oulu, Finland, and Chennai, India.

WinWinD’s technological expertise is widely acknowledged, and the company has excellent opportunities for speeding up its growth plans, strengthening its position in new markets, and becoming a major player in the wind energy market. Masdar’s investment will strengthen the company’s existing European operations. A substantial portion of the funds will also be used to expand its operations in India, thereby improving WinWinD’s capabilities for global operation.

Finnish Industry Investment Ltd invested in WinWinD in 2004 and is one of the company’s owners.
