French imaging technology provider Exosens has acquired Finnish photonics company Emberion. Operating in Finland and the UK, Emberion has developed pioneering quantum dot imaging technology for infrared and imaging. The acquisition strengthens Exosens’ position as a leading provider of imaging solutions. Significant shareholders before the transaction included Verso Capital, Nidoco Ab and Tesi.
Emberion’s technology originated from research activities at Nokia, and over more than a decade the company has protected its innovations with over 120 patents worldwide. The company is also one example of the strong expertise in semiconductors and photonics that has developed in Finland.
Tesi made its initial investment in Emberion in 2020 from its Venture Bridge special investment programme, launched the same year as a response to the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Emberion was the first portfolio company under the Venture Bridge programme to receive a follow-on investment from Tesi. Returns from exits form the basis for Tesi’s investment activities.
