Carnival Corporation, the world’s largest cruise ship owner and operator has announced their newbuilding program for 9 next-generation cruise ships to be delivered within the time frame 2019 – 2022. (Please refer to Carnival Corporation press release from 26.3.2015).

“We are very honored and proud to have signed a memorandum of agreement of strategic partnership with Carnival Corporation for the construction of two cruise ships at Meyer Turku in Turku, Finland and two cruise ships at Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany. We are very pleased that our efforts to offer Carnival Corporation four technically advanced and optimized ships paid off and led to this agreement. We are looking forward to continue the good cooperation and close the remaining open conditions,” comments Jan Meyer, CEO of Meyer Turku Oy.

For Turku shipyard this is a great opportunity to secure a long-term order book as a good basis for further strengthening the ship yard e.g. by further recruitments. When this order book materializes it will provide a stable work load for the Finnish maritime cluster for a longer term on a higher level than today. And, further it will allow the symbiotic relationship between yard and subcontractors to grow and develop further.

“We have now a unique chance to show that Turku shipyard can be strong again and even stronger when working together with Meyer Werft in Papenburg on these ambitious, next-generation cruise ships. This will be for the benefit of both shipyards, our employees, our subcontractors, the regions and those who want to join us to work on the future of cruise ships,” adds Jan Meyer.
